ELECTRIC CAR COMPONENTS AND FUNCTIONS
Hello automotive friends. On this occasion, we will discuss the components of an electric car and its functions. Lately, with the emergence of Tesla cars that carry electric cars, electricity is in great demand. Therefore we will review it in more detail.
Electric car
The main components of an electric car, their functions and
how they work are as follows.
When the car pedal is pressed, the controller will take and
regulate electricity from the battery and inverter. With the setting
controller, the inverter then sends a certain amount of electricity to the
motor (according to the depth of pressure on the pedal). The electric motor
converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. The rotation of the rotor in
the traction motor rotates the transmission, the wheels rotate and the car
moves.
The basic components of an electric car
Traction Battery Pack or traction battery
This component has a function, namely as an energy storage
system in the form of direct current electricity. If you get a signal from the
controller, a shout sends DC electricity to the inverter which is used to drive
the motor. Traction batteries in electric cars can vary. This type of
lithium-ion battery is becoming the most widely used in electric cars. Charging
the battery is carried out by a charger that is part of the car system (on
board charger) or by an external charger (off board charger).
Power inverter or power inverter
This one component has a function as a component of
converting direct current from the battery into AC alternating current, then
this alternating current is used by the traction motor. This component also
functions to convert the AC current during regenerative braking into DC current
for later use to charge the battery.
Controller
This one component has a main function, namely as an energy
regulating component element in the battery and inverter which is then
distributed to the traction motor. This component gets the main input from the
car pedal. This pedal setting will determine the frequency variation or voltage
variation entering the motor, as well as determine the speed of the car.
Traction motor
This component in an electric car will work to rotate the
transmission and wheels. Some hybrid cars use a type of motor generator that
has a function as a driving force and regeneration. The bldc traction motor is
the most dominant to be applied.
Charger
The charger in an electric car has a function as a component
of the battery charging equipment. Chargers work to convert AC electricity into
DC and then stored in the battery. There are two types of chargers in cars,
namely
On board charger, the charger is located and installed in
the car
Off Board charger is not in or not installed with the car.
A car using an onboard charger will receive AC alternating
current, while a car with an off-board charger type will get direct current as
its reference point.
Transmission
This one component functions to transfer mechanical power
from the electric traction motor to move the wheels.
DC / DC converter
This component in an electric car has the function of
changing the higher voltage DC electric power from the traction battery package
to a lower voltage. This component is needed to run car accessories and also
recharge additional batteries.
Auxiliary battery
This one component on an electric motorbike has a function
to provide power for car accessories, such as wipers, alarms, and others.
Thermal cooling system
This component has the function of maintaining a suitable
operating temperature range for engines, power electronics, traction motors,
and other components.
Charge port
This component in an electric car has a function as a
charging point that allows the vehicle to be connected to an external power to
charge the car battery. Hybrid cars and FCEV do not have to charge so they do
not allow recharging by external sources.
This is the article we can present about the components of
an electric car. Hopefully, this article can add insight to the automotive world
friends.
You’ve got some interesting points in this article. I would have never considered any of these if I didn’t come across this. Thanks!. artificial intelligence transportation
